Part 1 – Imperfect Parenting

that you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son's son, by keeping all his statutes…all the days of your life…                 Deut. 6:2

1.)       R -___Realize__: It starts with me and my walk with God! .

  • Fear of the Lord = GOD is BIG. Everything else is small.
  • How is God ‘rubbing off on you?’ (Matt. 5:48)

Now this is the commandment… 3be careful to do them, that it may go well with you…as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.Deut. 6:1,3,4

2.) E -____Embrace__ God’s call on my (family’s) life.

  • There is one God and One Bible! “Now this is THE commandment…” (v.1,4)

- The promises of God’s blessing in the Bible are the same for every parent.

  • There is also a unique response to God’s call for each parent.

- God is a champion of “parental rights!”

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. Deut. 6:5,6

3.) S -____Shift____ my focus to the heart.

  • Is your attention more often on behaviors or heart motivations?
  • Col. 3:20 – the goal of getting your kids to obey = “For this pleases the Lord.”

You shall teach them diligently to your children…Deut. 6:7

4.) T -____Train_____ myself and my kids to make progress.

  • Inculcate your kids with God’s Word constantly! (v.7-9)

- “To sharpen a knife; to instill or teach with persistent teaching.”
