Church Leadership

The Core – Part 6

A great resource: New Testament Church Leadership in Action Today by Knox & Hopler

The reason I left you in Crete was to set right what was left undone and, as I directed you, to appoint elders in every town.           Titus 1:5 (CSB)

1.)     Church leadership structure is simple: _________________________________.

  • Acts 20:17,28 & 1 Peter 5:1-2 – Elders, pastors, overseers = one position with different functions or responsibilities.

6 An elder must be blameless: the husband of one wife, with faithful children who are not accused of wildness or rebellion. As an overseer of God’s household, he must be blameless

Titus 1:6-7 (CSB)

2.) Pastors lead _________________________________________.

  • Matthew 20:26-28 – to become great…you must be a servant.

…not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not an excessive drinker, not a bully, not greedy for money, but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, righteous, holy, self-controlled, holding to the faithful message as taught, so that he will be able both to encourage with sound teaching and to refute those who contradict it. Titus 1:5-9 (CSB)

3.) Pastors are recognized based on Biblically-defined _______________________.

  • Elder Test = character God desires to be pursued by all believers!
  • Within a congregation…the church knows the man, the man knows the church.

This is a faithful and trustworthy saying: if any man [eagerly] seeks the office of overseer (bishop), he desires an excellent task! 1 Timothy 3:1 (AMP)

4.) Aspiring to the office of a pastor is _____________________________________.

Do you catch the vision of New Testament Church Leadership?
