Jesus Fulfilled the Passover for Us!
Grace Upon Grace – Part 3
Good Friday Service - Scripture Reading: Luke 22:14-20

For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.    John 1:16
“Behold the Lamb of God – who takes away the sins of the world!”   John 1:29

Luke 22:15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
Jesus fulfilled the Passover in his suffering.

  • Mark 14:33 – “He…began to be greatly distressed and troubled.”

  • Luke 22:42 – “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours be done.”
  • Jeremiah 25:15 – “The cup of wrath.”

19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
Jesus fulfilled the Passover by his broken body. (v.19 – this is my body)

  • Isaiah 52:14 – “so marred, beyond human semblance…”

20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.
Jesus fulfilled the Passover by his shed blood. (v.20 – the new covenant in my blood)

  • John 18:1 – “He went out with his disciples across the Kidron Valley…”
  • Rom. 5:8 – “God demonstrates His love for us in this: while we were still sinners Christ died for us.”
  • Atonement leads to: AT – ONE – MENT

17 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves.
Jesus fulfilled the Passover for everyone. (v.17 – divide it)

  • When Jesus fulfilled the Passover – it was enough for all people.

This is grace. This is what we remember on Good Friday. This is the remembrance we celebrate today and every time communion!
