Passage: 2 Kings 22:8-11

“Look What I Found!”

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Romans 15:4

Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. II Kings 22:8

Have you ever gone through your house and found something valuable?

Something like this happened over 2,600 years ago. They found the Book of the Law! There should’ve been multiple copies! (Deut. 17:18)

When King Josiah heard the words of the Law, he tore his clothes

(II Kings 22:11) … & then read the Law to all the people (II Kings 23:2).

Lessons:

  • It pays to ‘de-clutter!’ …
  • Despite millions of volumes of the Bible in our country, the word of the LORD is rare (I Samuel 3:1) … just like in Samuel’s day …
  • It pays to consistently (daily) read the Bible and dig deep! … we need it, lest we drift. (Hebrews 2:1)
