Passage: Matthew 16:18-19

My Church – God’s Fulfillment

“My Family”   Matthew 16:18-19, Heb 2:5-17

 

Matt. 16:18 “I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.”

 

Hebrews 2 7-8: “You made him a little lower than the angels, you crowned him with glory and honor and put everything under his feet. In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him.”

  • All creation will be subject to Christ one day, but today the church is subject to Him.  

 

The Church is My Family:

Vs 11-13 “Both the One who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers (and sisters).

  • Truth: God e_____________________ the church as His family.
  • This Brother (Jesus) and this Father (God) have no baggage – they are a perfect family.
  • If we have one command as a family it is this. Romans 12:16, Psalm 133:1

 

My Responsibility to My Family:

Truth: I make my church family an unconditional ______________ family. Hebrews 13:1 “Keep on loving each other as brothers.”

  • The highest standard of love is God’s. Ephesians 5:1-2
  • The greatest witness to being a follower of Jesus Christ. John 13:35

 

Truth: I make my church family an unlimited f_______________ family. Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another forgiving each other just as in Christ God has forgiven you.”

  • Again the highest standard of forgiveness is God’s. Matthew 18:21

 

Truth: I make my church family an unprejudiced c_________________ family. 1Corinthians 12:25 “There should be no divisions in the body, but the members should have the same care for one another.”

  • My church family is unending in serving one another. Galatians 5:13 “serve one another in love”
  • My church family is unlimited in sharing with one another. Galatians 6:10 “Therefore as we have opportunity let us do good to all men, especially to the household of faith.
  • My church family is unceasing in supporting one another. Galatians 6:2 “Carry one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

 

Truth: I make my church family an unapologetic s_____________ community. Galatians 6:1 “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently

  • I welcome and I will be accountable, correctable, teachable. Colossians 3:16

 

The family is the centerpiece of creation, civilization,

and the centerpiece of Christ’s church.
