Why is there Evil and Suffering?

Trump Cards: The Questions We Hope We are Never Asked! - Part 3

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.                  1 Peter 3:15

Principles to remember when answering hard questions:

  • Don’t let go of what you DO KNOW, because of something you DON’T KNOW.
  • Preparing means work.
  • What are the ‘questions behind the questions’ that are being asked?
  • Your tone and attitude in the answer is vitally important.
  • Hard questions are HARD. Don’t disrespect them as though they are easy.

Review

1.) How can a loving God send anyone to Hell? (Jan. 29)

2.) What happens to people that never hear about Jesus? (Feb. 5)

“There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” Luke 13:1-5

3.) Why is there evil and suffering in the world?

  • What is evil and where does evil come from?

  • If God is all powerful, why doesn’t he stop evil and the suffering caused by evil from happening?

  • What about natural disasters, famines and catastrophes that cause suffering?

  • How can God really care about us and love us, when He lets so much pain ‘just happen’?

The answer to the question of evil and suffering is best answered by Jesus on the cross!
