Part 2 - Imperfect Parenting

My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.   Prov. 23:26

Questions to help you win your child’s heart:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart…                 Deut. 6:5

1. Does God have your heart?

  • Realize that parenting starts with a dad/mom loving God & walking with Him!

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.Deut. 6:6

2. Does your child have your heart?

  • Every child need to hear and see and feel and know from Mom & Dad:

- Affection (Deut. 7:7-8; Ps. 16:3; Zeph. 3:17)
- Acceptance (Prov. 22:6, Deut 7:7-8)
- Admiration (2 Pet. 1:17-18; Ps. 139:17-18; 1 John 2:14)
- Appreciation (Matt. 17:5; Eph. 4:29)

You shall teach them diligently to your children… Deut. 6:7

3. Do you have your child’s heart

  • Does your child respect your authority? …have a desire to please you?
  • Does your child express that your voice and what you think, matters to them?
  • Does your child want, and ask for, your input? …accept your discipline?

A child who senses rejection tends to close their heart to your influence.

A child who senses acceptance tends to open their heart to your influence.

Perpetuating the perception of perfection
vs.
Accentuating the accessibility of acceptance

How can you make progress in winning your child’s heart?
