Passage: 1 Kings 18:36-39
Heroes: Elijah
“O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.” 1 Kings 18:36b ESV
Elijah really had superhero abilities! (Given by God, of course):
1. He could control the weather. 1 Kings 17:1
- Superhero equivalent: Storm
2. He had super speed. 1 Kings 18:44-46
- Superhero equivalent: The Flash
3. He could summon lightning. 1 Kings 18:38; 2 Kings 1:10, 12
- Superhero equivalent: Thor
More importantly, Elijah exhibited godly superhero qualities:
1. He was _accountable__ to God and His word.
- 1 Kings 17:1; 1 Kings 18:15
- “before whom I stand”
Are we standing before the Lord in our decisions and actions?
- 1 Kings 17:5, 24; 1 Kings 18:36-37
Are we living with God’s word in our lives and in our mouths?
2. He made God his __refuge__ in troubled times, praying to Him.
- 1 Kings 19:4, 11-14
Do we make time to listen for the LORD’s whisper?
- Psalm 46:1; Psalm 62:5-8
Do we “pour out our hearts” before God in prayer?
“God is a refuge, and the only way He’s a refuge to you is if you learn to dump on God. If you want God to be more real in your life, then you’ve got to start being real with God.” – Mark Darling
3. He ___invested__ in the next generation.
- 1 Kings 19:16, 19; 2 Kings 2:9-11
Are we taking time to disciple someone?
- Psalm 78:4
Are we training our youth to carry the torch when we are gone?
