Passage: Proverbs 3:1-2
Forget Me Not!
My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands; for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you. Proverbs 3:1,2
Today we will address one of mankind’s greatest problems.
Proverbs 3:2 gives the promise of a blessing, but like many blessings in the Bible it is contingent on us to activate it. Proverbs 3:1 gives the requirement for activation.
First, the promise of blessing (3:2):
- Length of days …
- Long life …
- Peace …
Then, the conditions to trigger the blessing (3:1):
- Do not forget … !!!
- We are prone to forgetting – God’s covenant (Deut. 4:23) & even God Himself (Deut. 8:11) … how to overcome forgetfulness:
- Read the Bible daily (Mt. 4:4; Job 23:12) …
- Attend ‘church’ (Hebrews 10:25) …
- Participate in Communion services (Luke 22:19) …
- Retreat to get spiritually re-charged (Mark 6:31)
- men’s, retreats … marriage retreats … conferences … We need these lest we drift away (Heb. 2:1)! …
- Solomon is (really) saying: Do not forget MY laws & commands!--
-Solomon’s dad, David taught him … now he appeals to his son to learn
life lessons from him (Proverbs 4:3,4) …
- Do you know & follow your parents’ ‘rules of life’? … … …
When we do not forget the ‘laws and commands’ of our parents – and, of course, God’s laws and commands – we’ll experience ‘length of days and long life and peace’!
