Father’s Day Message – 2016

“Keeper of a Godly Heritage” Psalm 78:1-7

 

“The only two measures of success I have ever used in this life are through the eyes of my wife and my children and how well I shepherded their hearts.”

 

What’s at stake? Vs 32-33: “In spite of all this, they kept on sinning; in spite of his wonders, they did not believe. So he ended their days in futility and their years in terror.”

Dad: Keeper of a Godly Heritage

Vs 1-3: “O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old – what we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us.”

  1. The Word of God is the s____________________ source of truth for his life. Mathew 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
  • The implication of Genesis 2:16-17: He is led by God’s Word and leads by God’s Word.
  • The greatest source of governance over his life is God’s Word. Psalm 25:5

 

Vs 4: “We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praise-worthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.”

  1. His life’s testimony is t___________ to the good ways and good plans of God.

Ps. 116:7 “Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.”

  • He models a trust, a confidence, a surety in the good ways of God.

Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

 

Vs 5-6 “He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children.”

Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”

  • His life is a collective reflection of God’s Word! Who he is, and how he lives.
  • He teaches what he lives and he lives what he teaches.

 

The command and the promise before dad: (Vs 7)Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.”
