A ‘Collation’ of Proverbs on Wise vs. Foolish Living:

- 25:28 – Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls.
- 26:3 – A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the fool’s back.
A short word study on the word ‘fool’ in Proverbs:
- 27:22 – Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain, yet his foolishness will not depart from him. Here, the Hebrew word for fool is ‘evil.’
- Ct.: 26:3 – The Hebrew word for fool here is ‘kesil.’
~ The ‘evil’ fool is a ‘committed fool’ who won’t change …

- 12:15 – The way of a fool (‘evil’) is right in his own eyes.
- 26:12 – Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool (‘kesil’) than for him.
~ If the word for fool was the same in each verse it would be like saying, ‘There is more hope for a fool than for a fool’!
- Q: Are children born wise? Or ‘otherwise’? A: See 22:15 …
The main distinguishing quality of a wise man vs. a fool is the willingness to follow directives and seek and listen to counsel/advice. Also, the fool repeats his mistakes, while the wise person learns from them.
