Passage: Hebrews 4:1-16

Real REST

We’ll find Real REST when we:

9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.                              

  1. Receive rest as a gift from God.
  • Gen. 2:2 – God...rested on the seventh day from all his work
  • Matthew 11:28-30 – Come to me...and you will find rest for your souls!

 

11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest… 12 For the word of God is living and active…

  1. Enjoy refreshment in the Word of God.
  • Ex. 31:17 – God...rested and was refreshed.
  • 2 Tim. 3:16 – All Scripture is breathed out by God…
  • Psalm 119 – “Delight in your ...” law, statutes, etc. (10 times)

 

 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses…

  1. Spend time being renewed in your enjoyment of God.
  • Key to overcoming temptation: enjoy God more than what you are tempted by.
  • Psalm 37:4 – Delight yourself in the Lord…
  • Ecc. 5:18-19 – Find enjoyment in God and His gifts!

 

 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

  1. Take care to reconnect in your relationship with God.
  • James 4:8 - Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Let’s rest, be renewed, refreshed and reconnected in our God!
