“Something Greater – Something Better”

2Corinthians 1:2-11

What is the most frequent command in the Bible? Hint: Genesis 15:1 “After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: ‘Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.’”

Something Greater

Vs 3-4: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of

compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God”

Truth: Whatever troubles and trials we face, God is g                     than them!

  • God has an all encompassing understanding and all surpassing power to overcome.
  • We must carry a vision for victory. Psalm 77:11-12 “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

Vs 5-7: “For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer…because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.”

Truth: Whatever troubles and trials we experience, God’s g           is equal to the trial!

  • Immutable spiritual laws of God: 2Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
  • By faith we continue: Psalm 126:5 “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.”

Vs 8-9: “We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.

Truth: God is working to rid us of self-r                            ; inhibitors of His grace.

  • 1Peter 5:10 “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”

Vs 9b-10: “but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us,”

Truth: The cross is the greatest power and t                                that we will prevail!

  • “He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us.”
  • Romans 8:37 “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

Because He is Greater – There is always Something Better!
