Passage: Psalms 56:10-13
Thanksgiving 2015 – The Foundation for Giving Thanks
salm 56:10-13
Psalm 56:12 “I am under vows to you, O God; I will present my thank offerings to you.”
Let us Consider: 1Thessalonians 5:18 “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Let us Consider: 1Corinthians 10:10 “And do not grumble, as some of them did – and were killed by the destroying angel.”
Why we don’t live – give thanks:
- Limitations: God doesn’t meet my needs. (I need more)
- Imitations: My wants are not God’s needs. (I want more)
- Expectations: God hasn’t met my needs. (I deserve more)
- Slothfulness: God doesn’t need my thanks. (I expect more)
These are the L.I.E.S. we believe! It’s a dangerous course to be unthankful.
Why Give Thanks:
- Because: unthankful begets ungrateful begets unbelieving begets unfaithful.
- The Real Issue: Hebrews 11:6
- Because giving thanks is one of the greatest faith builders we have. And it’s Easy!
- Simply a heart Issue. Psalm 9:1
Vs 12-13 “I am under vows to you, O God; I will present my thank offerings to you.
- Significance and Perspective of vows and offerings:
What I can give Thanks for: Vs 12-13 David’s (bucket) List:
My salvation “you have delivered me from death” 1Timothy 6:6 “But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
- I can be grateful in nothing more and nothing else but my salvation.
God’s limitless goodness: “my feet from stumbling” Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.“
- The unlimited goodness of God. Is to understand the omniscience of God, the omnipotence of God and the omnipresence/God over my life.
3. Perfect ways of God “walk before God in the light of life” James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, whodoes not change like shifting shadows.”
- God is Sovereign over my life. His time, plans, gifts, and ways are always Perfect!
- Inventory His goodness – now – today – all the time.
The Foundation for Giving Thanks: “For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.”
