Passage: 2 Corinthians 8:1-15
Something Greater 2Corinthians 8:1-15
“The Fundamentals of (Eternal) Investing”
Luke 9:25 “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and yet forfeit his own soul.”
Fundamentals of (Eternal) Investing:
Vs 2: “Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.”
#1: The joy of investing in God’s kingdom always outweighs the c__________ to give.
- 2Corinthians 9:7 “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
- We have to see the big picture! Philippians 2:14 and 1Corinthians 10:10
Vs 3-4: “For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints.”
#2: The privilege of investing in God’s kingdom always outweighs the a___________ to give.
- Mark 12:44 “They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything – all she had to live on.”
- Privilege to invest always outweighs the amount! 2Corinthians 12:15 “So I will very gladly spend for you everything I have and expend myself as well.”
Vs 7-9 “But just as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us – see that you also excel in this grace of giving. I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love…For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”
#3: The love of investing in God’s kingdom is always the greatest m__________ to give.
- 1Corinthians 16:14 “Do everything in love”
- Love is God’s greatest motivation and highest inspiration. John 3:16
Vs: 10-12 “And here is my advice about what is best for you in this matter: Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so. Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.”
#4: The most acceptable investment in God’s kingdom is a w__________ heart.
- Mathew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
- The money will always follow the heart. Mathew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
The fundamentals of investing, begins and ends with my heart, invested in God’s kingdom!
