The Path to Freedom – Part 3
“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. Exodus 20:7 (ESV)
1.) Why does it matter how we use the LORD’s name?
- The LORD’s name…reveal GOD to us.
- The LORD will hold us guilty…when we misuse His name! (Phil. 2:9-11)
7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain [that is, irreverently, in false affirmations or in ways that impugn the character of God]; for the Lord will not hold guiltless nor leave unpunished the one who takes His name in vain [disregarding its reverence and its power]. Exodus 20:7 (AMP)
2.) How do we misuse the LORD’s name?

3.) What are the results when we honor the LORD’s name?
- God will be more real to us. (Exodus 34:4-8)
- We will love and worship God more wholeheartedly. (Exodus 34:8)
- We will seek the good of people more fervently. (Exodus 34:9)
Let’s proclaim the name of the LORD and ascribe greatness to HIM! (Deut. 32:3)
