The Path to Freedom

“The Sacred Covenant”   Exodus 20:14, Malachi 2:13-16

James 1:25 “But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and

continues in it – not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it – they will be blessed

in what they do.”

Exodus 20:14 “You shall not commit adultery”

  • The bar is high: Matthew 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman

lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

  • Adultery is a “perversion” of God’s design,
  • All inclusive – not exclusive:

Adultery: An emotional, psychological, or physical sexual expression outside of the marriage bed of a husband and wife.

A Covenant: is an I                               p                               based solely on your word.

  • God is a covenant m : Genesis 2:16-17

  • God is a covenant k : Psalm 89:34

  • God is a covenant p : Genesis 3:19

The marriage union is a covenant of one man and one woman for life.

  • Malachi 2:14 “the wife of your marriage covenant”
  • Matthew 19:6 “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Romans 7:2)

The husband and wife are made in: the Image of God and the Likeness of God.

  • Image: ‘Imagery’: glory; design; order. Likeness ‘like God’ to reflect God

“So guard yourself in your spirit and do not break faith with the wife of your youth”

The Marriage Covenant is a Covenant to Guard:

- My heart: Proverbs 4:23 The throne of God – the Seat of man.

- My mind: Romans 12:2 My thought life. 2Corinthians 10:5 Psalm 25:5

-My eyes: Job 31:1 What I behold – What I set before them. Psalm 101:2-4

- My ears: Proverbs 23:12 Do not listen to that which provokes – impurity; irreverence;

- My lips: Psalm 141:3 I am the sum of my words – “by our words we are justified”

“So guard yourself in your spirit and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.”
