Passage: Hebrews 3:4
Who Built Your House?
For every house is built by someone, but He Who built all things is God.
Hebrews 3:4
‘For every house is built by someone’ … there is probably no observation or statement that is more self-evident than that!
But because so much of our society has rejected the second half of our verse – ‘but He Who built all things is God.’ – almost anything goes! ...
The ills of our society are symptoms … the cause/‘disease’ is our rejection of God as our Creator and the ‘claim’ He has on us.
So, it’s back to Genesis/Creation!
First, ‘Why Genesis/Creation’ – from the Bible:
The Bible really teaches creation in 6 ordinary days, a short while ago:
- When days are numbered, as in Genesis 1, it always means an ordinary day … e.g.: Genesis 1:19 …
- When the phrase ‘evening & morning’ is used, it always means an ordinary day … e.g.: Genesis 1:19 …
- From Exodus 20:8-11, we are to work 6 days & rest one – just as God did in creation …
- The genealogies of Genesis & the rest of the O.T. create a timeline of about 4,000 yrs. From Adam/Eve to Jesus …
- Jesus believed in recent creation – see Mark 10:6 …
- Jesus also asserted that if we fail to believe Moses’ record – which includes creation – we will have difficulty believing Him!
Þ See John5:46,47 …
- Peter preached that God’s prophets have spoken from the beginning of the world … see Acts 3;20,21 …
- Paul states that death came by sin … Romans 5:12 … evolution requires death … there is no room in the Bible for evolution …
Then, ‘Why Genesis/Creation’ – from the perspective of ‘design’:
- Every house … everything … has a designer/builder …
- For every house is built by someone, but He Who built all things is God. Hebrews 3:4
- You may have built your house – and much more – but God ‘built’ you! He has a claim on our lives!
Let this be our memory verse for the week:
For every house is built by someone, but He Who built all things is God.
