Part 2 - Imperfect Parenting
My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways. Prov. 23:26
Questions to help you win your child’s heart:
5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart… Deut. 6:5
1. Does God have your heart?
- Realize that parenting starts with a dad/mom loving God & walking with Him!
6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.Deut. 6:6
2. Does your child have your heart?
- Every child need to hear and see and feel and know from Mom & Dad:
- Affection (Deut. 7:7-8; Ps. 16:3; Zeph. 3:17)
- Acceptance (Prov. 22:6, Deut 7:7-8)
- Admiration (2 Pet. 1:17-18; Ps. 139:17-18; 1 John 2:14)
- Appreciation (Matt. 17:5; Eph. 4:29)
7 You shall teach them diligently to your children… Deut. 6:7
3. Do you have your child’s heart?
- Does your child respect your authority? …have a desire to please you?
- Does your child express that your voice and what you think, matters to them?
- Does your child want, and ask for, your input? …accept your discipline?
A child who senses rejection tends to close their heart to your influence.
A child who senses acceptance tends to open their heart to your influence.
