You are Sons
Look to Jesus – Part 2
And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons?
Hebrews 12:5 (ESV)
1.) God calls us___________________________________________________ .
- Romans 8:15-17 – We are adopted heirs!
“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. 6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”
Hebrews 12:15-6 (ESV)
2.) Well loved sons will be _______________________________________________.
- Heb. 12:7-8 – Discipline confirms sonship status!
- Psalm 141:5 - Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness; let himrebuke me—it is oil for my head; let my head not refuse it.
- Do I receive discipline, correction & rebuke as a sign of love and blessing?
11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11
3.) Discipline yields fruit – _____________________________________________ to it!
- Proverbs 13:1 – A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.
- Proverbs repeatedly mentions three types of people:
- The wise man who listens and responds.
- The foolish man who doesn’t listen and learns the hard way.
- The evil man who attacks and deceives.
God calls you His beloved son, how will you respond to His discipline and training?
