Passage: Proverbs 1:20
Your LIFE!
Wisdom calls aloud outside; she raises her voice in the open squares.
She cries out in the chief concourses, at the opening of the gates in the
city she speaks her words: “How long, you simple ones, will you love
simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate
knowledge. Turn at my reproof; surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I
will make known my words to you.” Proverbs 1:20-23
God’s wisdom is everywhere … accessible … crying out to us to listen!
Consider these two Scripture verses:
- “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that
proceeds from the mouth of God.” Said Jesus in Mt. 4:4 …
- “… I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my
necessary food.” Said Job in Job 23:12 …
Þ Do these two verses characterize your habits in reading the Bible?
If you haven’t yet, would you consider making a commitment to:
- Read your Bible daily?
- Read through it yearly?
David Livingstone, a great missionary of the 1800’s to Africa,
read through his Bible twice a year …
The Bible:
- Is living and powerful … Hebrews 4:12
- Contains light to direct you … comfort to console you … food
to sustain you … wisdom to teach you … fire to warm you …
It’s given to you in life … opened in judgment … and will
endure forever … It is a mine of wealth … a river of pleasure
… and a paradise of glory … Here heaven opens … paradise
is restored … hell’s gates are disclosed … It’s histories are
true … its doctrines are holy … and its precepts are binding
… Read it thoughtfully … read it frequently … and read it
prayerfully … Read it to be wise … believe it to be safe …
practice it to be holy … memorize it to grow. It involves the
highest responsibility … it will condemn all who trifle with its
sacred contents.
Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. Jerome
I thoroughly believe in a university education. Yet I believe a knowledge
of the Bible without a college education is more valuable than a college education without a knowledge of the Bible. Dr. William Lyon Phelps
