Passage: Genesis 6:5-22
“Ark Building Faith” Genesis 6:5-22 (NIV84)
Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
Parallels of the days of Noah and today;
Vs 5-7: “The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.”
- Romans 3:23 “all have sinned”
Vs 6: “The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.”
- Man’s sin grieves God; Ephesians 4:30 “do not grieve the Holy Spirit who is in you”
Vs 7: So the Lord said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth-men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground…for I am grieved that I have made them"
- God’s judgment on sin hasn’t changed!
8-9: “But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.”
- Hebrews 11: ‘we are sons and daughters of Noah’ (18) “a righteousness by faith”
Faith of Noah 14: “make yourself an ark” is to make preparations for the judgment day of God!
- The ark of Noah was God’s deliverance from sin and a futile and empty way of life.
- Jesus Christ is God’s deliverance from sin and a futile and empty way of life.
Noah’s (our) life lessons (the righteous have always walked – lived by faith; Hebrews 11)
1. Vs 9: The faithful walk with God. “he walked with God”
2. Vs 13: The faithful listen to God. “So God said to Noah”
3. Vs 22: The faithful obey God. “Noah did everything just as God commanded”
How Can I Have a Noah’s Faith: (dry land faith)
1. I must maintain an ever increasing knowledge of the Bible.
- Romans 10:17 “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.” (Bible)
- Greatest voice of God. 2Peter 1:17-19
2. I must maintain a pure conscience.
- Hebrews 10:22 “let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water”
3. I must maintain works of faith compelled by love.
- 1Thesselonians 5:8 “But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet.”
- Works do not justify a new birth, they testify to a new birth. James 2:22 “you see that his faith and deeds were working together and his faith was made complete by what he did”
The ark building faith of Noah is my inheritance and (by faith) my possession.
