Passage: 1 Kings 2:1-4
Show Yourself a Man
Summary of David’s Life as a man:
- He was very far from perfect. (A failure, even, in some respects.)
- He loved God and believed God’s Word.
- He is known as “a man after God’s own heart.” (Acts 13:22)
- Obviously – God is a God of grace beyond measure!
1When David's time to die drew near, he commanded Solomon his son, saying,
David’s Charge to Solomon:
2 “Be strong, and show yourself a man, 3 and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in His ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses…
1.) If you “show yourself a man”:
- 1 Cor. 16:13 - “quit you like men” (KJV)
- Joshua 1:9 = Be strong and courageous.
- 1 Timothy 4:16 = When it comes to God’s Word: “Stay with it!” “Keep Hustling!” “Keep your motor going!”
…that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn, 4 that the Lord may establish His word…
2.) Then you will experience “the good life”:
- God’s goodness in all that you do.(v.3)
- God’s goodness everywhere you go. (v.3)
- 1 Kings 6:11-13 = God’s vision for you: a multi-generational impact for Him!
Let’s “keep at it,” men!
God’s Word is true and His promises are for us!
