In August of 1983, a small group of young men and women began an evangelistic outreach on the campus of the University of North Dakota. Through Bible studies, literature (gospel tract) distribution, ‘open-air’ preaching, and a great deal of prayer, a small fellowship of students and young adults was established. We home-churched for a couple of years before buying a church building at 321 Cottonwood Street. Thus, the church’s name: Cottonwood Community Church. It was purchased on a contract for deed and paid off in less than five years.
In 2005 we sold the building at 321 Cottonwood and bought the larger facility in which we gather today – at 308 South 5th Street. We paid cash for the new building and then renovated it since it had been damaged in the flood of 1997.
Cottonwood Community Church is an autonomous church and governs her affairs independent of any denominational controls. Recognizing, however, the benefits of cooperation with other like-minded churches, we are part of a small regional group called Northlands, with sister churches in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We participate in leadership development, youth and adult conferences, and various mission activities.
By the grace of God, we are committed to God and His Word … to reaching people for Jesus Christ … to building Christ’s church … to developing church leaders/pastors/deacons … to growing in love and unity … to raising godly families … and to the goal of every member serving in the church.
