Passage: Joshua 6:1-21
“The Making of a Hero” Joshua 6:1-21
Perhaps the greatest challenge to being a superhero for God is unbelief! Mark 9:50
The making of a Hero: Numbers 13:30 “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”
- Joshua had one great desire: to be used of God.
Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Jericho’s (1 great) Lesson: the absurdity of the battle plan. Joshua 5:14: “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come”
- Truth: The battle is always the Lord's. “The Lord will fight for you” Exodus 14:14
The Making of a Faith Hero
1. Vs 2: “Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands”
• I must claim my rights as a victor. Colossians 2:9-10 “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.”
- What made Joshua a hero: he took God at His Word. Romans 8:37
2. Vs 3-5: “March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days…”
• I must execute my responsibilities as victor.
Deuteronomy 28:1 “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.”
- What made Joshua a hero: he believed God by obeying God’s every word. Joshua 6:5
3. Vs 6: “So Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant of the Lord and have seven priests carry trumpets in front of it.”
• I must trust the results to God as victor. 2Corinthians 1:20
“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God.”
- What made Joshua a hero: (40 years in the making) he knew God keeps His Word. 2Peter 3:8-9
Joshua 21:45 “Not one of all the Lord's good promises to the house of Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”
All that is necessary to be a superhero of the faith is to do what God calls you to do.
